Prologue

“Miata, you don’t have to do this,” Chance cries out. I am at the old castle ruins, getting ready to enter the elemental-less world, Earth. I am about to take a step through the swirling green portal, but I swiftly turn to meet Chance’s sad gaze. “Please don’t go. We can defeat them another way,” he chocks. “I don’t want you to leave Asuria…”

A tear runs down my cheek. I am not really sure how to reply. I have to do this to save my home and all the people that live here. “I am sorry Chance, but I have to. The Dorins are after me. If I leave they will stop attacking…”

“For what…” Chance yells, making his hands into a fist. “What about us?”

I look at Chance, heartbroken, and turn from his gaze. starting to cry. “There are more lives worth than mine, Chance,” I said. I am crying more now. “As I said, if I leave the island, everyone will be safe,” I growl, throwing a water ball at him.

The water ball evaporates when Chance throws a big ball of fire at it. He looks at me. “Please Miata. There are other ways to defeat the Dorins instead of leaving…”

“No there isn’t,” I said calmly. “They attack every time. When we combine our powers, the Guardian Beam doesn’t work against them,” I said. My voice suddenly gets softer. “It is the only way…”

Chance walks close to me and gives me a long kiss. I blush, but that isn't going to be changing my mind. “Is there anything I can do to change your mind?” he asks me. There might be a way, but I wasn’t going to take the risk.

I shake my head. I have to do this to protect the people and I am willing to risk my life for everyone here. The past few years, the Dorins have made people terrified and they had flocked to us Guardians. As soon as the attacks came, I found out that they are after me for my power, the Water Dragon, and now I decide to leave Asuria to live in the elemental-less world that they call Earth in a new form to remain hidden. So I might miss some people, but I will soon forget everything, I don’t want to, but this is for the sake of Asuria…

Chance just sighs. He looks at me, but he just nods without saying anything.

“Chance, I love you… but you need to understand. If they get ahold of my power…”

He just shakes his head and I think he is trying to prevent himself from crying. All I am doing was wrapping my arms around him and hug him tight, not letting go. Memories of us together begin to fill my mind and I cry in Chance’s shoulder. I can feel Chance wrap his arms around me too, stroke my hair and I never wanted to let go.

For the longest time I can remember, we don’t move. We just kept ahold of each other and remain quiet. The only noise that we hear is the small humming noise the portal makes. Time seems to stop, but I had to break the moment and push Chance away a bit. Chance looked at me, frowning, but I wipe the tears from my eyes.

“Miata…” Chance said.

I don't reply and stare at the green portal. It is starting to get dimmer and I have to go inside it before it would shut down. “I have to go…” I said doubtfully. I start to walk into the portal, but then Chance grabs my hand and I struggl to make him let go. “Let me go,” I order. I am expecting him to stay still, but he remains silent, puts a small object in my hand and then he lets go. I stare down at my hand to see what he had given me.

It is a small sapphire diamond that glows a blue hue. A golden silk is tied at the top and when turned over, there is a small water insignia engraved in it with the letter “C” on the bottom of the insignia. I remain quiet, unable to speak and unable to react.

“I wanted to give it to you when we went out…” Chance whispers. “I was too scared to give it to you, but now is the only chance…”

“Chance, I don’t know what to say…” I said breathless. I can’t believe that he would give me such a beautiful necklace and all I am doing is leave him forever. Oh why does everything have to be so complicated, I ask myself before putting the stone in the pocket of my dark blue robe. “I…” no other words come out.

Before long, Chance and I lean in and kiss. It was the only thing we could think of before my time is up and I want to make this last moment something that Chance will never forget. The kiss seems to be longer than I thought, but I just stare at his copper- amber eyes when we separate. “I will miss you,” I whisper.

“I will miss you too, Miata,” he said. He looks at the portal as it begins to fade away. “It is time for you to go…” he said sadly as he hugs me once more. A tear drops onto my shoulder. “Be careful.”

“I promise,” I said before walking into the fading green portal. I begin to float through a never ending dimension, but I take one last look at Chance before the portal gate closed. I try to hold my feelings back, but they rush through me like a waterfall and tears roll down my face. I cup my hand over my face, trying to calm myself.

The feelings were overwhelming for one second, but then the next second I only see darkness…
